Nerd Raging. [NSFW]

In raids I tend to become Milton in raids when encountering nerd ragers. Maybe I project to them that I am fresh meat when I speak on vent. I am NOT super ridiculous on vent, but I mumble and stutter a bit when I get extremely angry. Just as people interrupt me and absolutely ignore the points I am making, I can feel like Milton from Office Space.

[NSFW] [Language] Nerd Ragers

An Internet Tough Guy talks big online, but IRL is a total basement-dweller. Most internet tough guys are into computer programming or at the bare minimum, love video gaming. The typical Internet Tough Guy can be found in nearly every community on LJ but often resides in his parent's basement, for at least 7 days a week. From furry communities to political communities, the internet tough guy is one of many stock users that make up a community.

When encountering these types of people I would recommend the following:

  • Take off your headset when someone makes a mistake (and it's not you). This is of course if you want to stay in the raid with the Nerd Raging.
  • If you are the person who did make the mistake, even if every bone in your body wants to fight back against their accusations... don't. You can leave, or just take it as a grain of salt and move on. These people tend to think they are right, no matter the situation. Arguing with these people only leads to the situation being escalated with you looking like a fool or your removal from the raid.
  • Pin point the people on your realm that exhibit this behavior in raids. If you know it will upset you, then just don't put yourself in the position to deal with it. After all a game is a game and you SHOULD enjoy who you play with for the most part, granted you may not like everyone.
  • Personalities like this are everywhere on the internet, learning how to deal with them will only enhance your enjoyment of the game.
I witness this regularly through raiding in pugs with others, not necessarily myself being yelled at.  Although in the end, you are just justifying their need to make a scene by giving them a reason to continue screaming at you through vent. In my honest opinion, mistakes happen, be angry at the mistake and not the person.
